In all cases, guidance provided in the Isometric Standard, Protocols and Modules is authoritative.

Must the lab I use be accredited?

Yes. Section 7.4.2 of the Isometric Standard requires labs that conduct project analyses to hold ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation. Any lab that meets that requirement can be used.

Can I use a non-accredited lab?

This is possible, but requirements will look different depending on the pathway, so we recommend discussing this with your Registry Operations Manager. In general, the non-accredited lab must demonstrate that it meets the requirements of ISO 17025 through equivalent accreditation or processes. The project proponent selects, engages and pays the lab. Isometric does not arrange it or manage the relationship.

Do I need Isometric or the VVB to pre-approve my lab before testing starts?

No standalone pre-approval is needed. All lab documentation and justification must be integrated into the Project Design Document, which the VVB then validates. Isometric may review a lab’s documentation informally in advance if you require confirmation before sending samples.
